BUYER'S PREMIUM
The buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium, at the following rate, thereon.
26% up to £20,000
25% from £20,001 to £500,000
20% thereafter
VAT will be charged on the premium at the rate imposed by law (see our Conditions of Sale at the back of our catalogue).

For items marked with the ‡ (denoting additional VAT payable at a reduced rate of 5% on the hammer price) additional time should be allowed for Customs clearance by HMRC if the item is to remain in the UK. For items being exported out of the UK these items can be shipped via Crown Fine Art or via another approved shipper with a temporary admissions account.
No VAT is payable on the hammer price or premium for books bought at auction
REGISTRATION
All potential buyers must register prior to placing a bid. Paddle registration must be completed in advance of the sale day. Please note that all first-time, and those returning after an extended period, bidders at Lyon & Turnbull will be asked to supply the following documents in order to facilitate registration:
1 – Government issued photo ID (Passport/Driving licence)
2 – Proof of address (utility bill/bank statement).
By registering for the sale, the buyer acknowledges that he or she has read, understood and accepted our Conditions of Sale.
CATALOGUE DESCRIPTIONS
All item descriptions, dimensions and estimates are provided for guidance only. It is the buyer’s responsibility to inspect all lots prior to bidding to ensure that the condition is to their satisfaction. Our specialists will be happy to prepare condition reports and additional images. These are for guidance only and all lots are sold ‘as found’, as per our Conditions of Sale.
IMPORTANT NOTE RE BOTTLES CONTAINING LIQUID PERFUME
Please be aware that perfume is designated as “dangerous goods” under transport legislation, consequently scent bottles with contents may only be shipped by a carrier with the relevant dangerous goods certificate.
The bottles have been catalogued and photographed as accurately as possible at the time, but buyers must take into consideration natural variations and conditions of boxes, labels, tassels and ullage. Lyon & Turnbull is unable to accept returns.
IMPORT/EXPORT
Prospective buyers are advised that several countries prohibit the importation of property containing materials from endangered species, including but not limited to; rhino horn, ivory, coral and tortoiseshell. Accordingly, prospective buyers should familiarise themselves with all relevant customs regulations prior to bidding if they intend to import lots to another country. It is the buyer’s sole responsibility to obtain any relevant export or import licence. The denial of any licence or any delay in obtaining licences shall neither justify the recession of any sale nor any delay in making full payment for the lot.
ENDANGERED SPECIES

REMOVAL OF PURCHASES
Responsibility for packing, shipping and insurance shall be exclusively that of the purchaser. See Collections & Storage section for more info specific to this particular auction.
COLLECTION & STORAGE OF PURCHASED LOTS
Following the auction, the works will be divided, with works belonging to Scottish buyers/vendors being stored at Lyon & Turnbull, 33 Broughton Place, Edinburgh EH1 3RR, and works belonging to international or rest-of-UK buyers/vendors moving to Crown Fine Art, Art Central, 20-22 Union Road, London, SW4 6J. Please ensure payment has been made prior to collection. This can be done online, by cheque, bank transfer or in person at our office - details will be shown on your invoice. Please note we are unable to take payments over the phone, and we are unable to accept payments in cash.
LONDON LOT COLLECTION
Items will be available to collect by appointment from Crown Fine Art from Tuesday 1st November. Items will be stored free of charge until Monday 14th November. From Tuesday 15th November, clients will be charged by our storage partners.
EDINBURGH LOT COLLECTION
Scottish buyers and vendors items will be available to collect from Wednesday 9th November at 9am from Lyon & Turnbull, 33 Broughton Place Edinburgh EH1 3RR.
